HISTORY
1000 YEARS
IN THE MAKING
The Story Works site in Mortlake has a rich history as a centre for craft and industry. It has been known by various names over the centuries — the Tapestry Works, the King’s Works, and later, Watneys Co. Brewery and The Stag Brewery for Budweiser.
The site has played a vital role in Mortlake and Richmond, serving as a key employer and local economic driver, that ultimately shaped the surrounding community.
Having been a place of constant production for a 1000 years — The Story Works, marks a new chapter in the history of this historic site. As we reimagine its purpose, we recognise the importance of preserving its heritage while adapting to meet the needs of a modern era.
